This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Nebraska.
As we all know, “severe weather” in Nebraska can mean many things…thunderstorms, flooding, tornadoes and so much more. This week marks a great opportunity to think about your own readiness in your home, on your farm or where you work.
This week, a statewide tornado drill will be held on Wednesday, March 24th. We encourage you to use this opportunity to practice your sheltering procedure in the location you are when the sirens are sounded. While practicing your shelter, look around. Do you have an emergency kit? Is it stocked with items that would help you during or after a destructive tornado? Did everyone in your household observe the sirens and act accordingly? Think about these questions, and review your response measures afterward. Talk about what you can do differently next time.
This week we will be sharing content on our social media channels, including information shared by the experts. We encourage you all to follow the National Weather Service offices in order to stay on top of severe weather all year long.
