Southern Power District owns 720 acres in the former Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant located 2 miles west of Grand Island in South Central Nebraska. All 720 acres are available for development, or broken down into smaller parcels. Production at this plant ceased over 25 years ago and the property has been returned to private use. Southern's vision is to develop this area with companies that have significant energy (electricity or gas) requirements. Southern is a member of the Aurora Area Development Corporation, Kearney County Economic Development Agency, Merrick County Economic Development Corporation, Phelps County Development Corporation, and the Nebraska Economic Developers Association. The district is also involved in the Nebraska Development Network, and works with the above mentioned organizations to help businesses and industries in determining the best location for their new facilities.
